New Licensure Kit Unveiled

Licensure Questions? We Can Help

By Teresa Ferrer

Licensure

The OEA Center for Great Public Schools and the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) are proud to unveil a new licensure folder and companion set of comprehensive documents explaining the licensing system for teachers in our state. It is our hope that teachers will be able to use this folder to store their personal licensure documents as well as any of our informational documents that can help them navigate their way to both licensure and employment success in Oregon.

The licensure documents are built to be collected and referenced only as needed. These documents will be available on both the OEA (www.oregoned.org/licensure) and TSPC (www.oregon.gov/TSPC) websites for those who wish to peruse and download them. As changes occur, we will revise the individual documents as needed, so be sure to check online for the latest version of each (published dates are included on each document and online).

The Contents Page inserted in this kit contains a list of licensure documents available in this collection. Please refer to the online collection for any new documents that are added to this list. Today’s OEA routinely contains articles featuring the latest licensure news and tips. Archives of this magazine can be found at www. oregoned.org/communications.

OEA offers free Licensure Workshops on site to our local associations and districts (working in collaboration with our local associations) upon request. These are great opportunities for educators to come together to get detailed guidance and overview of Oregon licensure, as well as an active Q & A on all things having to do with the processes and rules of our professional license. Contact your local association president or UniServ Consultant (www. oregoned.org/locations) for more information on how to schedule a licensure workshop in your area.

In addition, the OEA Center for Great Public Schools offers the only preparation workshop available in the state for the ORELA (NES) Elementary Education Exam (Subtests I and II). This three-hour workshop is scheduled throughout the year at our headquarters office at 6900 SW Atlanta Street in Tigard, Oregon and is free to OEA members and Student NEA members. Go to www.oregoned.org/orela to register online. If you would like to schedule a training in your local area contact Teresa Ferrer at teresa.ferrer@oregoned.org.
